TANZANIA: Dr Mpango clarification on national debt

The Finance and Planning minister, Dr Philip Mpango has made clarification on the national debt which rises some questions to some of Tanzanians  interms of economic growth.

Dr.Philip Mpango clarified  the national debt, which is equivalent to 31.2 per cent of the country's Growth Domestic Product (GDP), is still sustainable, due to the fact that Tanzania has abiliity ti borrow 56% of its GDP.Hence they are still in sustainable environment for loan .He insisted by saying that the government will continue to borrow for further development projects despite of the vast increases of the debt from $22 billion in 2016 to  $26 billion in june 2017 which is almost to 17%, he added by saying that the national debt is still sustainability compared to other east Africa communities member, such that  Uganda national debt stands at 35.4 per cent of its GDP, Rwanda (26.6 per cent), Burundi (43.4 per cent) and Kenya (50.4 per cent).
